Job Details:
POSITION SUMMARY
Works under the direct supervision of the nursing director. The position is accountable to nursing director, clinical unit coordinator, charge nurse, nursing supervisor, executive vice-president of patient care services, the patient and family. Performs clerical duties and receptionist duties associated with preparing, compiling, and maintaining the patient records on a clinical nursing unit. Cross trained staff may be required to work on other nursing units as staffing and patient census indicates. Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
1. High school diploma or equivalent. Job requires the ability to read, write, and speak English. Prefer courses in medical terminology, unit secretary training program, or on-the-job experience.
2. Previous clerical or unit secretary experience desirable.
3. Physicians' orders into computer in a rapid, accurate, and timely fashion. Ability to speak clearly in regard to questions about physicians' orders, etc. Legible handwriting.
4. Good interpersonal skills needed in dealing with nursing staff, physicians, patients, and families and other members of the health care team.
5. Sitting for long periods, patient contact, lifting and moving equipment (50#).
6. Ability to comprehend technical medical terminology and to effectively and efficiently input orders accurately either manually or into the computer.
7. Ability to visually scan and proof information that has been entered into the chart/computer. Ability to communicate with nursing staff, support services, patient/family, and with physicians and physician's offices via the telephone.
